Rosh Hashanah Week 1!

With another week concluded and the holidays fast approaching we have already began our Rosh Hashanah unit!

We spent time introducing apples and honey and the excitement of the coming new year!

Here are some of our highlights from the week:

On Wednesday coach Zev came to visit our class to do sports with us! Outdoor is a great time to develop Gross Motor skills while having the chance to see a new environment.

We made Rosh Hashanah Cards after dissecting an apple to learn all the different parts of an apple. We loved getting the chance to use paint of the art manipulative.

We used apples to work on our math and numbers we measured the children in the class and then during circle practiced our counting while adding it to our class chart. researchers have found that young children are, by nature, curious about math. They have good evidence that math becomes real to young children as they use it by talking, reasoning, playing, and doing!

Sensory is a huge part of a Reggio inspired room. We introduced this week sensory bags with different materials, emphasizes honey for the holiday. They loved feeling and changing the different substance, describing each one they felt.

Cooking was a huge success this week! We made applesauce. Cooking can help young kids learn and practice some basic math concepts and build language skills. And the experience of creating meals with you can help build their self-confidence and lay the foundation for healthy eating habits. They all enjoyed taking turns mashing the apples and tasting it when we were finished.

Next week, on Tuesday Ariella’s Bubby who is a bee keeper is coming in to teach the class about bee keeping! Have a Wonderfull weekend and Shabbat Shalom!
