Rosh Hashana- Nursery-JK

This week we learned all about Rosh Hashana. We learned about the process of how bees make honey. We tried on bee costumes and pretended to be honey bees flying to the flowers and collecting nectar with our long tongues. We then hurried back to our bee hive to the queen bee where we put our nectar into the honey comb.

We strengthened our pincer grasp using droppers to transfer the "nectar" into the honey comb.

We painted honey comb print on our Shanah Tova cards.

We were so excited when bee keeper Ellen came to visit our class on Tuesday! She showed us her special gear that she wears to make sure not to disturb the honey bees.

She showed us the bees' house that she keeps in her backyard.

We got to examine and feel the honey comb which can be used as wax.

And we got to taste the delicious honey which was collected by Ellen! Ellen gave each of us a gift of honey and apple to take home.

We decorated our own honey jars.

We have been super busy in our drama center turned Post Office writing letters, putting them in envelopes, stamping them and delivering them.

Morah showed us how we write a letter, in three steps: the beggining, middle and end. We then chose a recipient for our letter and got to work drawing, tracing and writing, each child at their level. Some children made little scribbles that symbolize letters which indicates print awareness. Some were ready to trace and others to write their own letters.

We then put the cards into envelopes, stamped and addressed the letters.

Finally, we walked to the nearest mailbox and each child put their letter inside.

We seeded a pomegranate and found so many seeds just like all of the Mitzvot that we have done this year!

We learned that on Rosh Hashana we go to a body of water that has fish and we throw all of our "Avirot" away. We painted our own ponds of fish for Tashlich.

Meirs Tatty came to blow shofar. We heard the 3 different kids of sounds of the Shofar. The Tekiya (1 long sound) Shevarim (3 medium sounds) Teruah (9 short sounds)

We ended our week baking round Challah for Rosh Hashana and meeting our new letter Gimmel!

Wishing each of you a Shanah Tovah, a year of revealed good and happy moments.

Morah Chayala and Morah Chaya
