This unit was all about me!
It was so much fun to start off the year
getting to learn about all of our friends in class and about their families. We discovered
things about ourselves like hair and eye colour. We also learned who was in our
families and built where we live.
Here are some pictures of our highlights
this past week:
Fine motor skills are so important for development at this age, so we make a point to work hard to create new and challenging centres on the light table. Nate is having a great time using the pinchers and transferring them to the different colours.
Another highlight of the week was introducing Aleph and the letter A. Art and creative time is a big hit in the classroom because it gives the children the opportunity to apply shape and colour in a creative way! Here is Laila leaning about aleph with bingo dapping. This gets the children familiar with the letter so when we have a story about it we can talk about it in class, point to our example and make the connection.
A big highlight that the kids have really been enjoying is circle time. Circle is an optimal time to work on social skills and critical thinking. This week we focused on all about me and our friends in the class. When we incorporate music and movement they are so engaged and focused. Here we played a song about friendship and everyone joined in for some dancing and hugs
Sensory is something we are very big on having in the class. We spent time this week with the Play-Doh and mr. potato head body parts to practice labeling and identifying different body parts. We made many different faces and people!
