Pre-Nursery 1 - Fall Unit

Shalom Families!

Our Fall unit has been so much fun as we enjoy observing the changes in our environment right before our eyes. The children were very excited daily to learn something new or observe a new change in their surroundings.

Autumn is not only a wonderful time of year with crunchy, colorful leaves and cooler weather, but it is also a great time to learn some new autumn facts.

During circle, we discussed the different types of leaves and discovered some fun leaf facts:

Leaf Facts

Think you know everything there is to know about leaves? You may be surprised to learn the following facts:

Leaves require sunlight, water, chlorophyll and carbon dioxide to make food for themselves.

As winter approaches, leaves make a coating for themselves which blocks their water source; in the absence of water, the leaves no longer produce chlorophyll (chlorophyll is what makes leaves green).

When the leaves turn colors in the fall, they actually are returning to their normal colors. During the summer months, the chlorophyll present in the leaves causes the leaves to turn green, blocking the leaves' actual colors.

Red and purple leaves are actually caused by the presence of sugars from sap that is trapped inside of the leaves.

Once the leaves have turned brown, they are dead and no longer receive any nutrients.

We painted with fall colours on mac tac paper with drawn on fall leaves, we also used plain white paper with q-tips during art.

We added leaves to our light table tree branches... and sorted fall leaves into our wooden sorter.

We created fall trees using our whole arm and paint...

We had LOTS of fun exploring our pumpkin...

We also made a special morning snack, as we study the letter Alef we made Avocado  sandwiches

And a bunch of other really fun activities engaged in this unit..

We conducted a leaf graph to understand how many children like the same types of leaves.

We used fall colour tissue paper to make 3D leaves on mac tac paper..

Take a look at our shabbat party..
