100 Languages of Children- Artist Unit

Shalom Families!

Children use A hundred languages to express themselves.  Words, symbols, sounds, music, art, etc. It is through those languages we learn about the children and what is important to them. this week we started our 100 languages of Art unit. We've spent the week exploring different mediums of art, leaning about famous artists, and working on all of our colours! With our Reggio inspired approach we allow the child’s interests to direct their learning and art.

We had so many different amazing Artists' to choose from, but we were ultimately inspired most by Van Gogh's Sun flower painting, Claude Monte's Water Lillies, And a Freelance Artist who created beautiful melted crayon art. We worked over the course of two weeks contributing a little a day to present our version or these iconic art pieces.

We really took the time to dive into each of these Artists' story behind their art and the different emotions they chose to put into it. We listened to sad, classical, upbeat music to capture the exact emotions while recreating our pieces.

For two weeks we had the purpose of encouraging every child to express themselves in a variety of ways to support their whole development and set the stage in life for their success as capable, competent, and creative learners!

Throughout this special unit we discovered different manners to express ourselves with our busy and creative hands at the same time that provoking every child cognitively accordingly to their stage of development. 

We also learned through interactive songs (the classroom favourite was "Jump Up, Jump In"); obstacles courses; dancing games; pretend play with peers; reading aloud; names' provocations; and outdoor exploration.

Nursery Fall unit

Hello Nursery Families,

In this unit we learnt all about Fall season. We danced like trees we made trees with all the fall season colours, we talked about all the different characteristics of the 4 seasons. We also had so much fun playing in the rain.

Making trees with different open ended materials.

open ended materials provide multiple uses and endless play. It enables children to be creative and express themselves in play, often using materials to explore and represent other things. There is no pressure to complete an “end product” or bound by limitations.

Playing in the rain and the first snow fall

Playing outdoors encourages children to be physically active.

Outdoor play often involves use of gross motor skills such as running, jumping, and climbing.

Weaving with colorful ribbons.

Builds fine motor skill (pincer grasp)

Aids visual tracking.

Building eye/hand coordination.

Strengthens the muscles used in pincer grip.

Physical experience of spatial concepts of up, over, and under.

Helps in using both the dominant and non-dominant hands at the same time.
