"THE 100 LANGUAGES OF CHILDREN" - Artist Unit
“Our image of the child is rich in potential, strong, powerful, competent and, most of all, connected to adults and other children.” Loris Malaguzzi
For two weeks we had the purpose of encouraging every child to express themselves in a variety of ways to support their whole development and set the stage in life for their success as capable, competent, and creative learners!
Throughout this special unit we discovered different manners to express ourselves with our busy and creative hands at the same time that provoking every child cognitively accordingly to their stage of development.
We also learned through interactive songs (the classroom favourite was "Jump Up, Jump In"); obstacles courses; dancing games; pretend play with peers; reading aloud; names' provocations; and outdoor exploration.
§ Skills and abilities in action: 2.1 Expression of Feelings; 2.2 Self-Regulation and Attention Regulation; 2.4 Sense of Self; 2.5 Autonomy; 3.2 Expressive Language; 4.3 Cause and Effect Exploration; 4.4 Spatial Exploration; 4.9 Sorting; 5.2 Fine Motor (making a mark/pincer grasp/tools use); 5.3 Sense Exploration and Integration (hand-eye coordination)
Children were exposed to famous artists and given the opportunity to create their own masterpiece by using a variety of open-ended resources. Our inspirations were brought by
Pablo Picasso with "Girl With A Boat (Maya Picasso) Fille Avec Un Bateau"
Paul Klee with "Castle and Sun"
Wassily Kandinsky with " Color Study. Squares with Concentric Circles"
Modern Art Movements, Artists, Ideas and Topics. (n.d.). Retrieved from https://www.theartstory.org/.
We hope you have enjoyed our meaningful unit and all the children's delighted involvement in every learning opportunity! Please, feel free to leave your comment here in our blog as well!
With love,
Morah Dominique
