JK Nursery Winter 1

We hope you had a wonderful Chanukah and winter break. We started our week by asking the children what their favourite part of Chanukah was and putting their names on the graph.

This week we began our Winter Unit at Torah Tots. We worked on our number recognition and 1:1 correspondence by putting the right amount of buttons on each snowman.

We were especially interested in learning about how animals survive the winter. We learned that bears hibernate, burds migrate and other animals adapt by growing fur or keeping warm with their fat.
We worked as a class on  a hibernation project. The first part of our project was to create a bear cave.

Then we formed bears from clay. We named our bears and told our friends all about them.

 Here is the final product!

Pajama day on Wednesday was so much fun! We loved to see our friends in their pajamas and introduce our furry friends to the class! We pretended to be bears hibernating and drank hot chocolate for snack.

We have been getting so good at recognizing our names. We build name snowmen by putting the letters of our name in order. Our work is proudly on display outside the classroom.

We traced letter A on chalk boards and then some of us made our own "A"s.

Yoga with Catalina is always a great way for us to exercise and develop body awareness.

We love our time outdoors especially in the snow!

In addition to learning about hibernation we learned about migration and adaptation. We spoke about how the birds migrate south to avoid the winter and other animals grow extra fur to stay warm. We did an experiment using margarine which is like "blubber" that keep animals warm in the winter. We put our hand into a glove full of margarine and then dipped it in ice cold water. We noticed that the margarine kept our hand warm.

We used the scale to measure how many bears equals the weight of a larger item. We then wrote the correct number into the square,

Looking forward to another week as we explore the season of winter!
