Yom Kippur and Sukkot!

The past few weeks have been so busy but so fun in the pre nursery class! we've been learning all about all the special holidays.

For Yom Kippur we learned about friendship and being kind to one another using our fine motor skills and sensory by making a friendship mural

For some of our older friends in the clasroom we learned about the happy and sad things we do by putting rocks in our measurement scale. On Yom Kippur Hashem comes and takes all of sad rocks away for us!

For Sukkos we learned a new song about shaking the lulav and esrog in the sukkah and got to sing it in the sukkah!

Did you ever shake a lulv a lulav
did you ever shake a lulav on a sukkos day
shake upwards
and downwards
shake backwards and frontwards
did you ever shake a lulav on a sukkos day!

We painted our very own classroom sukkah and make esrog out of playdough

Our mad scientist in the class found out what happens when you take a citrus fruit and mix it with baking soda, it was very cool!

discoving all the materials we have the class worked together to build sukkahs out of many different things

For Simchat Torah we took a trip to the shul to see the real torah and get to kiss it!! it was so special

I hope all of you and your families have had some wonderful chag and time together
shabbat shalom and chag sameach

Yom Kippur and Sukkot

Yom Kippur, Sukkot and Simchat Torah

These passed few weeks we have been so busy learning about all of the holidays!

We learned that Yom Kippur is a time to say "sorry", daven and give Tzeddakah. We sorted our Tzedakkah coins and then experimented with water and vinegar to see which will shine the coins the best.

We measured our feet and compared the size of our feet to the size of our friend's. This activity taught the children measurement concepts in a hands on way. The children then used their footprint to make slippers for Yom Kippur! We learned that on Yom Kippur we are pure like angels. We dress in white and the Mommies and Daddies don't eat just like angels.

We learned a song about Yom Kippur:
No Washing, No dringking, No Goodies to eat
All dressed in white, with slippers on our feet
Tell me, tell me, what is it for?
I know what it's for, Yom Kippur.

For the holiday of Sukkot we were given an assortment of materials to create our own unique sukkot. We used cardboard, Schach, wood and burlap.
We then practiced writing our names each at the best of our ability.

We loved playing in our class Sukkah! We used strips of paper to create patterned chains to decorate our Sukkah and we collected Schach to put on top.

Morah Set up a Sukkot play dough provocation. We used the materials presented to us to create beautiful Sukkot.

One of our highlights of the week was eating snack in the Sukkah!

We learned all about the Lulov and Etrog. We loved the mini Lulov and Etrog that we made and we strengthened our fine motor muscles as we squeezed lemons which are a citrus fruit just like the Etrog.

Our Sukkot Song:

I built myself a Sukkah
With four walls and a door
It doesn't need a ceiling
It doesn't need a floor
The Schach will be the ceiling
The earth will be the floor
Let's set up our table
It's ready now for sure!

In preparation for Simchat Torah, we decorated flags and practiced dancing with them!

Then we went for a visit to the Shul to see where the real Torahs live. We learned that just like we  read our favourite book again and again, when we finish reading the Torah we want to read it again.

We each had a chance to give the Torah a kiss and then we danced to Torah, Torah all around the Shul!

Literacy: We got to make use of our names filling out different graphs related to the Holidays.

We found the Alef Bet in the rice bin and went fishing for Alef Bet.

We matched the bean bags to the corresponding letters.

Wishing you a Shabbat Shalom and Chag Sameach,

Morah Chayala and Morah Chaya
