We have had such a jam packed unit learning about the Rain Forest! We painted a beautiful Rain Forest scenery and learned about the layes of the rainforest and the different animals that we can find in each layer. We loved to sing the Rain Forest song:
The Layers of the Rainforest Song (Ttto: If you are happy and you know it)
There are layers in the forest, yes indeed
There are layers in the forest, yes indeed
Emergent, canopy and the understory
There are layers in the forest, yes indeed.
The forest floor is dim and dark and wet
The forest floor is dim and dark and wet
The ants go marching by as they watch the birds up high
The forest floor is dim and dark and wet.
The understory’s home to many snakes
The understory’s home to many snakes
They eat cats and bats and rats
and they like the gnats for snacks
The understory’s home to many snakes.
The canopy is like a big umbrella
The canopy is like a big umbrella
Monkeys, sloths, orangutans
Eat all the fruit they can
The canopy is like a big umbrella.
The emergent’s home to birds and butterflies
The emergent’s home to birds and butterflies
The leaves are so high that they almost touch the sky
The emergent’s home to birds and butterflies
We learned about the different foods that come from the rainforest. One of them is Cocoa beans! We loved making and tasting chocolate pudding!
We painted our names using tea. which also comes from the Rain Forest.
We learned all about butterflies and the process of how the caterpillar transforms into a butterfly.
We used droppers and coloured water to decorate butterflies which are hanging in our rain forest.
We were so excited to welcome two caterpillars to our class. We will be watching them closely to see any changes.
We used different kinds of pasta to make our own diagram of the stages of the butterfly. First there is an egg, then a caterpillar, then a chrysalis and finally a butterfly.
For mothers day we prepared beautiful Shrinky Dink Keychains with pictures of our Mommy on it.
We learned about Lag Baomer and Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai who hid in a cave and ate carob and drank water while learning Torah. On the day of his passing we celebrate by making bon fires. We made our own bon fires and pictures of us and our friends singing around the bon fire.
We loved having our moms join us on Friday! We enjoyed painting jewellery boxes for our moms and eating yummy muffins. We told our moms why we love them and they told us some of the many reasons why they love us!
We love painting outdoors!
Shabbat Shalom!
